On Saturday, September 17, 2011 we hosted Fight Gone Bad (FGB) 6, a fundraiser and community workout benefiting and honoring the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Infant Swimming Resource® and CrossFit® Kids, and Camp Patriot presented by CrossFit and Sportsgrants.
We raised a total of $11,577.20. CrossFit Montgomery ranked 36th out of 880+ participating affiliates. A big thank you to all those who donated and fundraised for FGB6. We’d also like to thank everyone who participated and volunteered at our event.
Congratulations to the top three fundraisers: Clay & Jof (tied with $1,305) and Bean ($800).
We had 52 participants complete the community workout. Congratulations to Dennis Houde from CrossFit 2L2Q and Crystal McCullough from Crossfit Embrace on winning 1st Place. Congrats to CFMGM members Clay (2nd Place Male), Mickey (2nd Place Female), Steve (3rd Place Male), and Amy (3rd Place Female) for winning 2nd and 3rd Places. They all won gift certificates to Zappos.
FGB, The Workout
Fight Gone Bad, the workout, is one of the most brutal workouts on the CrossFit menu! And CrossFit Montgomery and friends anted up for the challenge. Workout consists of three rounds with one minute rest between rounds. Each round consists of working at each of the five stations below for one minute:
- Wall Ball: 20#/14# ball, 10 ft. target (Reps)
- Sumo Deadlift High Pull: 75#/55# (Reps)
- Box Jump: 20″ box (Reps)
- Push Press: 75#/55# (Reps)
- Row: Calories (Calories)
The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point. The total amount of points is your Fight Gone Bad score. Participants chose to compete in one of four divisions:
- Class A: Standard Men – 75# push-press and sumo deadlift high pull, 20# wall-ball, 20” box jump
- Class B: Modified Men/Standard Women – 55# push-press and sumo deadlift high pull, 14# wall-ball, 20” box jump
- Class C: Intermediate – 35# push-press and sumo deadlift high pull, 10# wall-ball, 20” box jump (step-ups)
- Class D: Beginner/Kids – 15# push-press and sumo deadlift high pull, 6# wall-ball (can be lowered to 8′ target), 10” box jumps
History of FGB
In the first four editions of the Fight Gone Bad fundraising event, CrossFit Affiliates have raised more than $2 million. In 2009, over 5,200 people participated, raising more than $1.1 million for the charities. In 2010, over $1.5 million was raised! Fight Gone Bad 5 took place at more than 500 CrossFit affiliates throughout the world and benefitted Wounded Warrior Project, LIVESTRONG, and CrossFit Foundation.
CrossFit Montgomery hosted Fight Gone Bad 5 on September 25, 2010 at The Boneyard. There was an amazing effort on display as 27 individuals–25 adults, 2 children, 7 female, 20 male, the oldest being 48 and the youngest being 9–fought in honor of wounded warriors and cancer patients at The Boneyard on September 25, 2010. Thanks to all who participated and donated, we raised $5,202 and were named a 2010 FGB5 Fundraising Champion–The Dirty South Regional Winner [for <25 participants]!

We received an email from Sportsgrants saying that FGB6 has pledged to pay for the college scholarships of ALL 31 children who lost their dad in the recent helicopter crash in Afghanistan on 08/06/11. To clarify, they are covering ALL kids from this incident….NOT just Special Ops. The way they are FULFILLING this promise is through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF), who has already reached out to each family.
Camp Patriot gets $100K and ISR/CrossFit Kids get $200K of the total funds raised for FGB6. Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) gets everything else…. so like 90% of the funds will go towards SOWF. Everyone agrees the priority is paying the scholarships for the 31 kids of the 30 men who died on August 6 in Afghanistan.
David and I brought our glass coin jar from home to use as the community donation jar. It was 1/3 full with coins. We took the coins to Max Federal Credit Union to their automatic coin counter and it totalled $99.47! Bring your extra change to The Boneyard and donate it to the FGB cause. The coin jar is located above the stereo. Every little bit adds up!
A co-worker of Jennie’s sent her a link to a website. She said that she received a call from someone asking for a donation. When she looked them up on the Charity Navigator, she saw that less than 5% of the money raised actually went to do just that, and they raise over $1 million annually. Check out the rating for SOWF.
Thanks to everyone – participants and volunteers – who attended our event yesterday! Fundraising doesn’t end until Friday, Sept. 23. Donate at https://fgb6.rapidgiving.com/frp/fundraise.aspx?pk=78U944K.
Congratulations to Dennis Houde from CrossFit 2L2Q and Crystal McCullough from Crossfit Embrace on winning 1st Place.

We’ve uploaded 790 photos taken by one of the photographers to our Flickr account: http://www.flickr.com/photos/37826397@N03/sets/72157627588459437. Enjoy!
Cody just texted us from the bank and said there was $276.45 in the coin jar! Thanks to everyone who submitted change!!! With that donation, we’ve raised $10,554.20 so far. And Jennie mailed about $650+ in checks to Sportgrants this morning.
Out of 877 affiliates that were registered AND donated any amount (1000s registered) the Boneyard is ranked 42nd with 51 registrants and $11,017.20 (so far)! Awesome work ladies and gentlemen!
